The Central Valley encompasses the province of Alajuela, Heredia,
the capital city of San José, and the area from the city
of Cartago all the way to the town of Turrialba. The "meseta
central" or central plateau is bordered by majestic mountains
and volcanic peaks, surrounding several National Parks, mighty
rivers and vast coffee plantations. Such imposing natural beauty
sharply contrasts with the valley's market towns, agricultural
communities, residential and commercial developments.
This region
serves those who spend their initial and farewell nights before
heading back to their home town, as well as travelers wanting
to explore some of Costa Rica's treasures without having to travel
long distances.
Accommodations
found in the Central Valley are vide and varied. These include
hostels and mid-priced Inns, boutique hotels & spas hidden
from the city's noise, all the way to larger hotel chains such
as Holiday Inn, Best Western, Intercontinental and Marriott.
