What We Offer

Founded in 1986, Costa Rica Tours specializes in white-water rafting, mountain biking and hiking tours, and owns and operates the Pacuare Lodge, located in the jungle near the Pacuare River. We are fully licensed by the Costa Rican Tourist Board. Whether it's a one-day tour or a two-week expedition, we can arrange all your hotel reservations, transportation, tours and outdoor activities. The adventures we offer provide visitors with an opportunity to experience the rich tropical biodiversity of Costa Rica while enriching their own lives. Safety Comes First

At Costa Rica Tours, safety is our number one priority. Every tour has been carefully scrutinized to assess all safety considerations. This includes, from our choice of hotels, drivers and transportation, to the training of our guides and the equipment we use. Our bilingual guides instruct guests on all safety measures before each trip, and a fully stocked first aid kit is available at all times. We personally operate the majority of the tours we offer, and only subcontract services to companies of excellent repute and impeccable safety records. We spare no effort to provide the highest quality standards and equipment available while striving for the most enjoyable experience possible. Our outstanding track record reflects this profound concern for the safety of our guests. In Harmony With Nature

From the beginning, Costa Rica Tours has continually strived to form relationships with companies that respect the environment. This is reflected in the hotels and lodges we choose, the people we hire, and the equipment we use. Our very own Pacuare Lodge was built with a minimal impact on the river and rainforest site where it is located, and is accessible only by raft or four wheel drive vehicle with a scenic hike along the river.
The lodge has no electricity—lanterns and candles provide light for guests and staff. No trees were cut on our site of primary rainforest to construct the bungalows and lodge. Wood for the bungalows was purchased from a sustainable reforestation project operated by and benefiting small local farmers. The Pacuare Lodge has been recognized by the World Tourism Organization as 1 of only 65 examples throughout the world of good practice in sustainability and ecotourism. Though any site will have some impact on the natural environment in which it is placed, the design and maintenance of the lodge have at their very core our commitment to minimal impact and maximum education and enjoyment!

We are a team of passionate, energetic and caring people who embrace a spirit of adventure and true concern for the environment. Our management staff, bilingual guides and reservation personnel are dedicated to your safety, personalized service and satisfaction. All of our tours have been carefully selected and tested to ensure the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. Our ground staff and drivers are first aid and CPR certified and are dedicated to providing our customers with a safe and highly entertaining adventure experience. Additionally, our river guides are trained in swift-water rescue and many have additional certifications such as wilderness first aid and wilderness first responder. Among the best in the field, all of our experienced guides receive continuous year around training. Perhaps the most enduring quality of any guide is his or her ability to make a trip come alive, to infuse drama and suspense, to provide our guests with unique insights and humor. A quality guide may mean the difference between a good trip becoming a great trip and a great trip becoming an exceptional one! More Than Tourism

Like a number of isolated rural areas in Costa Rica, infrastructure in the community where the Pacuare River put in and the Pacuare Lodge are located is scarce and poorly maintained by the government. Consistent with our belief that responsible tourism should benefit and respect local communities, Our Community Support Program works directly with people and institutions in the Pacuare area by providing economic assistance, improving and maintaining roads, and by coordinating the donation of economic resources and equipment. We donate a percentage of each Internet reservation directly to the three primary schools located along the Pacuare River between Tres Equis and Siquirres. We also accept gifts and donations for these schools, which are transferred in their entirety to the school boards (no administrative or other fees are deducted), who use the funds for much-needed materials and student services. For larger donations by people going on one of our overnight Pacuare trips, we will arrange a personal visit on horseback to the Bajo del Tigre School to meet the teacher and schoolchildren.

Our Costa Rica offices are located on 5th Avenue, between 33 and 35 streets, in the capital city of San José. We are open year-round, seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
